Octavio Moreno //

Mexican-American baritone Octavio Moreno has earned acclaim for his “sublime baritone” (Arizona Daily Star) and singing with “remarkable ease and naturalness” (The Independent). Equally at home in the standard operatic repertoire and contemporary American opera, he has appeared with leading companies including Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Minnesota Opera, Arizona Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Opera San Antonio, and New York City Opera, as well as internationally with Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and Teatro Nacional Sucre in Ecuador.

Recent engagements include General Moncada in Zorro with Arizona Opera, Laurentino in Cruzar la Cara de la Luna with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, serving as cover for Tonio in Pagliacci with Minnesota Opera, and guest appearances with Opera Las Vegas and Boise Opera. Upcoming engagements include a return to the role of General Moncada with Utah Opera.

Mr. Moreno is the creator of three principal roles in contemporary opera, including Laurentino in Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, the world's first mariachi opera, Xihuitl in El Pasado Nunca Se Termina, and General Moncada in Zorro.

A graduate of the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Dr. Moreno earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona and is delighted to make his Passion Project:Opera! debut as Miller in Verdi's Luisa Miller.
