Justin Birchell // Siméon
Justin Birchell is a versatile musician who is in demand as a baritone soloist, choral conductor, composer, and music educator. Recent solo credits include Betto in Gianni Schicchi (Anchorage Opera), Schicchi in Gianni Schicchi (Tacoma Opera–a production he also directed), and The Dragon in The Dragon of Wantley (Anchorage Festival of Music).
Justin is also a passionate recitalist and will be presenting When Time from Time Shall Set us Free, a recital of art-song with the powerful pianist Victoria Kirsch, here in Tucson on February 16th.
As a choral conductor, Justin was a co-winner of the 2025 American Prize in Choral Performance, for his recording of Reena Esmail’s “The Unexpected Early Hour,” with the University of Washington Chorale. His original film music, based on his longstanding research into the choral traditions of the Republic of Georgia (Saqartvelo), will soon be heard in the documentary film Two Steps Back: Georgia’s Uncertain Future.
As a music educator, Dr. Birchell has taught at the University of Washington, at University of Alaska Anchorage, and has delivered pre-concert lectures for the Seattle Symphony.
